Cryo-preservation of Oocytes and Embryos
The effectiveness of treatment can be increased by freezing (cryopreservation, vitrification) of those embryos that have not been transferred into the uterus. This service can be useful in case of attempt failure, as well as if after the birth of your first child you will have further reproductive plans.
In case of the risk of severe ovarian hyperstimulation, cryopreservation of all embryos and their transfer in the following cycles is the only effective method of preventive measures and treatment.
The effectiveness of treatment in our Clinic is on a high level and meets international standards. In this regard, multiple pregnancy is a priority problem. Our Clinic strives for reduction of frequency of multiple pregnancies. The only effective way is to transfer a smaller number of embryos. Cryopreservation of embryos is an instrument that allows you to transfer one, maximum two embryos into the uterus at a time, while preserving high efficiency of treatment.
The expenses for cryopreservation and transfer of thawed embryos is 3-4 times lower than expenses for a “fresh” cycle, several times lower than hospital treatment of severe ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome and ten times lower than expenses for nursing premature babies born as a result of multiple pregnancies.
Cryopreservation of embryos and their storage is a costly procedure for the Clinic; it requires preparation and planning of time to ensure maximum efficiency of this procedure. Cryopreservation should be performed within a highly restricted time-limit. For this reason, successful performance of the procedure is only possible in a planned way. Embryo cryopreservation is usually performed on the 5th – 6th day after the puncture. We ask to make an advanced payment of this procedure no later than 72 hours (3 days) after the puncture of the ovaries and the oocytes retrieval. By this time, it is already possible to determine with a high degree of probability whether cryopreservation will be performed or not and to estimate the number of embryos that can be cryopreserved.
In the Clinic cryopreservation is performed by the vitrification method (fast cryopreservation). 1-2 embryos are cryopreserved in a separate container (medium). The most effective way is to cryopreserve one embryo in one container. In this case, the possibility of thawing odd embryos of good quality is excluded and, if necessary, they can be used in further cycles. In some cases (a scar on the uterus, common diseases, etc.), when for medical reasons it is possible to transfer only one embryo, it is essential to perform cryopreservation exceptionally for one embryo on one medium.
In normal circumstances, cryopreservation of 2 embryos in one container is acceptable. You make the decision on the number of embryos which should be cryopreserved in one container together with your doctor.
